Note that there isn’t any active DCINY experience planned…. Stay tuned
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, and practice. Or….. you can join a DCINY choir! Basically, the way it works is that DCINY assembles a choir and conductor and brings them together in New York City for a whirlwind weekend of rehearsals, culminating in a Carnegie Hall performance. CCC members, among others, have participated in several of these performances. The most recent was the weekend of April 30th, 2022, under the baton of our own Pepper Choplin. Read what Candace Blackley, a long time CCC member, had to say about the experience.
“Dear CCC board members and Carnegie Hall attendees,Those of us who participated in the DCINY Carnegie Hall performance on May 2, both as singers and attendees, had a wonderful experience. It was so exciting to join our voices with those from other choirs around the United States (including a choir from Hawaii!) to sing Pepper’s beautiful and moving cantata, Once Upon a Morning. We made new friends and renewed old acquaintances.
Thanks to all the singers for your hard work and dedication to make the performance such a success and to all the friends and relatives who supported you.
Lastly, I want to thank our CCC director and Carnegie Hall director, Pepper Choplin, for the wonderful job you did pulling together almost 100 voices from different choirs to form a single choir capable of doing justice to your beautiful composition. Many of the other choir members commented to me about how jealous they were and how lucky those of us in the CCC were to have you as a director. How true!”
What Pepper Choplin had to say
Hello, Carnegie alum!
What a wonderful weekend we shared! I loved gathering with you to make music. Thank you for your energy and enthusiasm. Your powerful presentation was an inspiring experience.
I so enjoyed finally hearing you sing the music I wrote back in 2019. You were so affirming in your feedback.
We appreciate Anne Moody for playing with such sensitive musicianship. Our soloists, Jay Warren and Allen Moody rose to the challenge and confidently delivered their parts to the audience. On each of her narrations, Candace Blackley’s strong articulate words made me smile.
As always, I appreciate Iris Derke, Kevin Taylor and the DCINY team for their graceful demeanor as they led us through the experience. I’m grateful for their extra effort during testing as they sought to keep everyone safe.
Our concert was their second event since 2020. I’m sure your happy enthusiasm was an encouragement as they begin welcoming choirs again.
I hope our paths cross in the future. Until then, keeping singing and blessing the people where you live.
Pepper Choplin
I’m interested…. when is the next one??
Unfortunately, there is no fixed recurring opportunity. That said, we imagine there will others, perhaps as soon as this year and will update social media as details emerge.
