Every year on April 16, otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeons, and other voice health professionals worldwide join together to recognize World Voice Day. On this day, everyone, young and old, is encouraged to assess their vocal health and take action to improve or maintain good voice habits. The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery has sponsored the U.S. observance of World Voice Day since its inception in 2002. The theme of this year’s day is One World, Many Voices.
Voice Importance
Your voice is something that you probably don’t think of too often. It works seamlessly for the most part and we don’t pay much attention to its care unless we are sick and hoarse. As we celebrate and reflect on our voices this April, voice professionals want us to know how important voice is in the daily lives of all people. Our voices are a critical aspect of effective and healthy communication. It’s the tool that gets us from A to B every single day. Think about what your life would be like if you didn’t have a voice. No singing, no talking. Many of us wouldn’t even know each other if we didn’t have a voice. Cary Community Choir would not be around.
The Human Voice is the most perfect instrument of all.

Spread the Word
World Voice Day is a time to make the world aware that voices should be cared for. Preventing problems and how to rehabilitate a sick voice are equally important. World Voice Day also sheds light on how to train an artistic voice. Voice professionals encourage all those who use their voice, whether it be for work or fun, learn to take care of their voice, and know how to seek help and or training if needed. We are fortunate in the Triangle to have a world-renowned voice care center in our backyard – Duke Voice Care Center.
